Video: Magnussen gets a very special visit after fifth-place finish in Bahrain

Kevin Magnussen enjoyed a dream weekend on his return to Formula 1 in Bahrain, after sitting out the 2021 season.

Having lost his seat with Haas at the end of 2020, Magnussen was recently asked to return to the American-led team as they released Russian driver Nikita Mazepin from his contract.

Magnussen immediately accepted the offer, despite having prior 2022 engagements with Chip Ganassi Racing and Peugeot, and flew to Bahrain to take part in the second of the F1 pre-season tests.

Despite his relative lack of practice, recent experience and F1-specific fitness training, Magnussen proved one of the star performers in Bahrain as he qualified in seventh.

But more was to come, as the Dane capitalised on some late retirements to climb up to fifth place and return Haas to points-scoring ways for the first time since the 2020 season.

After the race, Magnussen was visited by his wife Louise, whom he married in 2019. Louise brought along the couple's daughter, Laura, who was born during Magnussen's hiatus in 2021.

The beaming father put Laura into the cockpit of the VF-22 and took photos as the baby took the wheel and began 'steering' it – no doubt a quick learner with both her father and grandfather (Jan) being racing drivers!
