Wolff struck by similarities to Guardiola

Toto Wolff admits that he was struck by how similar his management approach is to that of Manchester City's Pep Guardiola after meeting for the first time.

Guardiola visited the F1 paddock during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend, where he was taken on a hot lap of the Yas Marina Circuit by Mercedes boss Wolff.

Prior to this, Wolff listened to the Premier League manager speak at an event and noticed some strong likenesses in how they go about their roles.

"We were on stage in a Q&A, invited by Puma," Wolff told the Beyond The Grid podcast.

"We didn't know each other, but when I heard him talking, it was like my sentences. [It was] the same approach, and he said the same about me."

Wolff and Guardiola on 'same wavelength'

Wolff now expects Guardiola to play a role his "journey" in the future following the discovery of their similarities.

"Fundamentally, it's down to human management," Wolff explained.

"[He is] someone that is certainly going to be part of my journey going forward, because he was just on the same wavelength, and even the family was on the same wavelength [as] Susie and I.

"So [he is an] exciting personality."

When asked if there is one slogan that he and Guardiola would share, Wolff answered: "I don't know him enough to say one slogan, but [I would say] trust your instinct."

Both Wolff and Guardiola have experienced great success in their managerial careers; Mercedes earned eight consecutive Constructors' Championships under Wolff's leadership between 2014 and 2021, while Manchester City have won four of the last five Premier League seasons with Guardiola.
