Max Verstappen became the first Honda-powered driver to claim the Formula 1 World Championship for 30 years by winning the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Prior to last weekend, just three drivers had won the title for Honda - Nelson Piquet in 1987, Alain Prost in 1989 and Ayrton Senna three times in 1988, 1990 and 1991.

Verstappen became the first non-Mercedes driver to win the World Championship in F1's turbo-hybrid era, scoring a record 18 podiums this season.

Honda will leave the sport as an engine manufacturer at the end of December, handing their power units to Red Bull Powertrains from 2022.

It means Verstappen could be Honda's last World Champion for the foreseeable future, unless the Japanese manufacturer return to F1.
