WATCH: What happens to classic F1 cars once they finish a season?

Each F1 car that completes a season is kept in storage, where it takes a race team itself to maintain them throughout a year.

Ever wondered what happens to a Formula 1 car once it has completed a season?

While some end up spending a portion of their lives as a 'show car' for demo runs and promotional events (see Red Bull RB11), most end up in 'heritage' storage units where they are maintained for running at special events such as Goodwood.

Mercedes has a whole heritage collection that is maintained by a race team, with each car that has finished a season returning to the heritage lot where they are rebuilt exactly how they finished their final race.

Each car is then given a yearly service, which involves stripping down the bodywork and cars floor.
