A 3D animation of Zhou Guanyu's British Grand Prix accident has been released by Crashalong, a motorsport content creator who specialises in recreating real-life crashes.
Zhou's car was flipped upside down after contact with George Russell at the start of the Silverstone race, sending him skidding off the track at high speed.
His Alfa Romeo then dug into the gravel, dramatically vaulted the outer barrier and eventually came to rest wedged sideways against the inner catch fencing.
Remarkably, the Chinese driver was released from the circuit's Medical Centre after precautionary checks and took to social media to confirm he was unhurt.
As a result of the crash, the FIA and F1 are working towards roll hoop safety improvements for the 2023 season.
Crashalong recreated the incident from start to finish "after careful analysis of the footage" and, while there are some "educated guesses about the dynamics of the car and circuit components", it offers a fresh look at what happened.
