Tsunoda states he 'lost my mind' with team radio outbursts

Yuki Tsunoda has highlighted his desire to have a calmer approach while speaking on the team radio going forward.

Since his debut season in 2021 Tsunoda has been noted for his outbursts over the radio in high-pressure situations.

The Japanese driver has been retained for the 2024 campaign following a positive third year at AlphaTauri, helping the squad end the Constructors' Championship in eighth place.

While Tsunoda feels he has improved his team radio frustrations this season, the 23-year-old wants to see further progress.

“I would say the behaviour on the radio and those things, it got much better compared to the last few years,” Tsunoda told media including RacingNews365.com

“But there are still some races where I kind of lost my mind, I could not get my things together and sometimes [I was] still shouting [on the] radio. I want to definitely improve.”

Frustrations over Mexico mistake

While Tsunoda's campaign was full of strong performances, he was criticised for a botched overtake attempt on Oscar Piastri at the Mexico City Grand Prix.

The contact eliminated Tsunoda from the race while he was on course to score strong points and has asserted that such a mistake should not have occurred.

Speaking about other areas he wants to improve, Tsunoda said: “Some of the calmness and situation control like what happened in Mexico, I could have finished P8 easily.

“As a driver I wanted to more, obviously. I had quite good pace and I think if I was able to overtake smoothly, probably there was potential to finish in P5.

“That was a pretty big mistake for me so I have to definitely reduce that kind of big mistake [that] I should not have never done.”
