Perez explains how he achieved 'dream come true' Monaco win

Sergio Perez admits that winning the Monaco Grand Prix was a "dream come true" as he claimed the third victory of his Formula 1 career.

The Mexican managed to get ahead of the Ferrari duo of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc during the pit-stops of what proved to be an eventful afternoon, with the race twice interrupted by red flags.

Despite Sainz getting very close to the back of his Red Bull during the latter stages of the event, Perez held onto his lead and was overjoyed with the result.

"It's a dream comes true," Perez told Sky Sports F1 after the race.

"As a driver, you dream of winning here. After your home race, there is no other weekend more special to win."

Not a straightforward drive to victory

Perez admits that it wasn't all smooth sailing on his way to the chequered flag, though.

"The way we did it, we just made it a bit harder for ourselves there at the end," he stated.

"But, with the [tyre] graining I had, to not make any mistake, to bring it home... Keeping Carlos behind wasn't easy."

The Red Bull man added that it was a "massive day" for himself and for Mexico.

"I'm very, very happy," Perez summarised his afternoon in Monte Carlo.
