British Formula 1 driver Lando Norris would rather focus on getting the best results for his McLaren team rather than looking at the championship standings.

Norris who has claimed two podiums in the first five races of the 2021 season is currently in third place in the driver standings. The McLaren driver though says he isn't really concerned by the table and would rather focus on constantly improving both the car and himself.

"I'm not thinking of a championship that's just, that's like an added bonus for now," Norris told Sky Sports.

"I think that moments like today [Monaco podium], Imola, the biggest thing is just seeing the team and how happy they are and their hard work paying off. It's very motivating for the team to make sure we can be even stronger and a little bit better."

The British driver also said the priority needs to be bridging the gap to Mercedes and Red Bull when the regulation changes are implemented in 2022.

"It's final year to really make that next step and really get on the same foot as Red Bull and Mercedes and Ferrari," Norris concluded.
