Since first hosting an F1 race under the European Grand Prix title in 2016, the Baku City Circuit has been a regular fixture on the calendar in recent times.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix become the event's name from 2017 onwards, and the twisty street track has been the scene of several memorable moments. In 2021, Max Verstappen was on course to take victory, but a left-rear tyre failure on Lap 44 ended his race and brought out the red flag.

His Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez went on to win after a two-lap sprint to the finish following the race restart.
